Harmonising tradition and innovation: designing a wind-protected retirement home in Mandurah
In Mandurah, Western Australia, Tall Trees Group and our team of aged care architects have harmonised tradition and innovation to design a wind-protected retirement home that embodies the essence of the region. With a focus on creating a comfortable and serene environment, we embraced the challenge of integrating traditional elements with contemporary aged care architecture concepts.
Situated in a thriving coastal town, our aged care building design comprises six buildings and a leisure centre, providing residents with a range of amenities and spaces to enjoy. Drawing inspiration from the local architecture, we crafted articulated facades reminiscent of classic front porches, infused with captivating art deco elements. By utilising traditional construction materials such as brick, natural stone, and rammed earth, we achieved a timeless and authentic design that resonates with the surroundings.
One of our primary considerations was protecting the open spaces from the strong winds, particularly the prevailing "Fremantle Doctor" that sweeps through the region during summer. Through innovative design strategies, we incorporated wind-resistant features that ensure the comfort and tranquility of both residents and outdoor areas. This thoughtful approach creates a harmonious balance between nature and built environment, allowing residents to fully enjoy the outdoor spaces year-round.
As experienced aged care architects, we understand the importance of creating residential care facilities that promote ageing-in-place with an emphasis on wellness-focused senior living design. Our design seamlessly blends functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability to provide a comfortable and welcoming home for retirees.
