Enhancing the experience of learning, playing and performing
Aquinas College, located in Southport, Gold Coast, partnered with Lightwave Architecture for its ambitious education expansion project. As part of the project, a comprehensive site audit and analysis were conducted, specifically tailored to meet the requirements of Brisbane Catholic Education funding applications. This initial phase was followed by a qualitative assessment, leading to the development of an education master plan for the years 2015 to 2022, in alignment with the college's future vision. The master plan encompasses staged developments based on funding opportunities and annual growth, ensuring a strategic and sustainable approach.
Lightwave Architecture has successfully produced concept designs for all works up to 2015, efficiently managing a team of consultants to meet strict timelines and budgets. The project scope includes the creation of 29 new teaching spaces in various forms, enhancements to landscapes and covered areas, establishment of a new performing arts centre and multipurpose facility, and extensions to the administration and staff facilities.
Throughout the design process, careful consideration is given to the integration of these new structures into the existing campus, both aesthetically and functionally. The architectural design draws inspiration from the existing school architecture while incorporating advanced elements that enhance the overall quality and image of the campus. The interstitial spaces between buildings are strategically designed to serve as effective and impactful learning environments, providing students with valuable areas for learning and relaxation. Aquinas College's commitment to creating a variety of interconnected spaces fosters a layered series of learning and recreation areas throughout the campus, promoting a vibrant campus life.
