EIGHT MILE PLAINS

STATE SCHOOL

Providing above and beyond the requirements

As part of the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan - Building the Education Revolution, Grimley Constructions enlisted us to design a resource centre for Eight Miles Plains Primary School.
The challenge was in adding the new resource centre into a poorly neglected school situated in an area prone to flooding.
We approach the project with the view to provide over and above the requirements for the given budget by partially utilising an existing structure.
Our master planning concept was for the project to open up like a rabbit warren and provide a clear covered connection throughout the school.
By using an existing slab of a removed classroom block and adding a new roof, the front of the resource centre acts as a hub for the school. It integrates the surrounding courtyards and walkways into a coherent whole and provides terraced seating overlooking the oval.
Working with existing levels and major flooding problems the new works alleviate water ingress issues while simultaneously providing a covered outdoor stage and performance space that doubles as a covered play and open learning area.
