ROBINA COMMUNITY AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE
A community performing arts centre worthy of an award
Robina State School commissioned us to create a community performing arts centre. The core concept was to provide an adaptable and versatile multi-purpose space to act as a signature statement for the school and public education. Previous experience with performance spaces highlighted the opportunity to integrate the building form with the tight, sloping site and acoustic requirements. The primary building is set up on an East to West axis. Internally, large louvre banks catch predominant breezes and high-level windows facilitate ventilation. Outside, the breezeway along the northern face catches the gentle winds coming off the oval below. Due to careful planning the Robina Community Performing Arts Centre seamlessly integrated existing with new; and private spaces with public. It was the winner of a Commendation for State and Regional Australian Institute of Architecture Awards 2010 in the Public Architecture category.
