Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous
If money were no object, what kind of house would you design? At Lightwave we had lots of fun with this question and it got us talking about people for whom money is no object – like Hollywood celebrities and their choice of house design and architect. How does an architect get a gig like this, we wondered?
John Travolta and Kelly Preston famously have an airport hangar in the front yard of their Florida home. Their house and hangar design by Sherri James of Michael James Design Team, is a mid-century style home which has a view of the tarmac. Kelly Preston says “it was always John’s dream to have planes in the front yard – to practically be able to pull up to the house – so when you wanted to go for dinner, all you’d have to do is step out the door and get on the plane and whisk off.” Yep, that’s right, they can be on their way to Paris within an hour.

Meanwhile over in LA… Jennifer Aniston worked with designer Stephen Shadley for 2.5 years on the renovation of her 70′s Hollywood home and Stephen commented “l’ll be lucky if I ever do anything with this kind of freedom again”. Stephen had previously worked with Diane Keaton and Woody Allen so we think he’s future as an architect to celebrities is pretty much cemented.
