Clever solutions to achieve development yield and town planning compliance

This project consists of eight units with a separated lift tower at the rear that facilitates natural ventilation and light through the rear of the apartments, eliminating a problem which occurs in most apartment blocks.

Other challenges included deep cuts into the existing slope, and outlooks to habitable rooms within this area required careful consideration – lush tropical gardens were designed into the high retaining walls to both complement the verticality and provide light and amenity to these areas on the lower level units. The living rooms and other public spaces overlooked Coolangatta with water views of the Tweed River.

The final design represents the owner’s interest in the horizontality of Frank Lloyd Wrights early twentieth century work with stone and timber.
