Commercial / Mixed Use - Classic Holidays GC Office
Whilst things in the commercial world are pretty tough these days, not everyone has been forced to downsize. Classic Group, a long term client of Lightwave, have outgrown their Miami tenancy which Lightwave did the fit out for back in mid 2007. Since then, their business has not only survived but thrived through the GFC – going from strength to strength.
Their new office space takes up 2000m2 over the top two floors of the building and is very open plan with no areas out of bounds, unlike the security paranoid corporations.
As designers we have explored the relationships both within the independent teams and across teams in an attempt to bolster the already strong connectedness within the business, all whilst considering the spacial relationships in the new office.
In response to Classic’s CEO Ramy Filo’s early brief and the feedback from their business, we at Lightwave have sought to explore efficiency with ‘a soft edge’, which is in keeping with the Classic Holidays business. Whilst some of Classic’s business units require fairly structured and orderly spaces, others can afford a more fluid dynamic. This dynamic is planned to be captured in the visitor’s viewing experience of ‘the restaurant’s kitchen’ and the broader Gold Coast views this office affords when entering at the lobby level – a little ‘googlesque’ in its character. The top floor of the tenancy has a cathedral ceiling spanning to a height of approximately 7 metres which whilst impressive, has laid down some challenges when dealing with conflicting uses, particularly noise transference. Lightwave have proposed a volumetric meeting room space to sit within the greater space to create something of an anchor and break down the enormity.
