Retirement & Ageing - Tall Trees Cairns
A place for young and old..
This was the fourth in a roll out of five retirement communities with the Tall Trees Group. The project incorporates many additional new design innovations as a response to the ongoing development of the group’s innovative aged care model.
As with other projects, particular care is given to the design to conceal support devices and detract from the feeling of a hospital.
We took a particular focus on amenity and creating social and recreation opportunities. Elements within the centre like the bar, library and vegetable gardens encourage residents to take ownership of areas.
Many elements of the centre, including space planning make strong references to the planning of international hotels. Features like valet parking, reception, lobby spaces and two storey voids are incorporated into the design and a second level semi-public space is accessible by a lift and a grand staircase.
It is also important that the centres are inviting to residents’ families and any other members of the community to encourage diversity to the centre.
Children are always sources of great enjoyment for the elders and this centre includes an elaborate playground and ice cream / coffee shop run by the residents.^ BACK TO TOP
