Overcoming the obstacles to create visual and spacial connections
Working from a template design that did not suit the site or the schools requirements, we carefully manipulated the design to insert into the existing infrastructure while ensuring all DET requirements were still maintained.
To enable the building design to tap into the existing system while maximising the tight site, a thorough understanding of the movement networks throughout the school had to be established, and the relationship to existing structures indentified.
Considered window placement and roof design maximised the treed outlook and views to the playground and oval to provide abundant natural daylight without direct harsh sunlight. Splitting the buildings with a feature courtyard roof structure provided a clear focal point and landmark that addresses the rest of the school and doubles as a marker for the building entries and gathering space.
A series of open learning areas adjoin the pathway networks, which in turn relate back to the internal spaces to provide a visual connection between functions that links the activities through the school.^ BACK TO TOP
